Sigur Rós

I just could not sleep, and I thought: "What about a TV serial?"...so I'm starting to watch. Time is passing, I slowly close my eyes, when suddenly a melody used in the movie makes me feel extremely at peace with myself...Anyway, after I have listen the song, of course, I listen to the band and it's...stunning.

Today, I'm gonna add a new genre in the list, post rock, beginning with the Icelandic band Sigur Rós, which this year is releasing the sixth album. The group formed in 1994, at Reykjavík, at that time the members were only Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson (guitar and vocals), Georg Hólm (bass) and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson (drums), nowadays, instead of Ágúst is Steindór Andersen.

In 2007, when Sigur Rós played a series of concerts around their homeland, promoting their hugely successful "Takk…" album, the entire tour was filmed. The movie was named "Heima" (= at home). "Playing for free in deserted fish factories, outsider art follies, far-flung community halls, sylvan fields, darkened caves and the hoofprint of Odin’s horse, Sleipnir*, the band reached an entirely new spectrum of the Icelandic population; young and old, ardent and merely quizzical, entirely by word-of-mouth." In 2011, "Inni" is the second movie and the first live album, which, of course, is outstanding.

I think the band is well known for the playing guitar with the bow from a cello and falsseto voice, both made by the vocalist.

"Heima" must be seen, the music must be listened...
