BEFORE THE DAWN - "Pitch-Black Universe"

BEFORE THE DAWN - "Pitch-Black Universe"
  Album: Rise Of The Phoenix
  Release Date: 27 April 2012
  Genre: Melodic Death/Gothic Metal
  Country: Finland (Nastola)

"Pitch-Black Universe", the new video from Finnish dark melodic death metal BEFORE THE DAWN was released. The song comes off the band's new album, "Rise Of The Phoenix", which was released on April 27 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Commented directors OneManArmy Productions: "The video was shot in an abandoned garage in probably one of the ugliest towns in Finland (Kouvola) which seems to be made completely out of concrete so the scenery was pretty much ideal. It was very pleasant to work with a band that was cool with playing with real fire instead of relying on digital effects and we managed to cause only one small second-degree burn to the hand of Tuomas — so it all went pretty well!"
Tuomas Saukkonen (vocals): "Massive changes in the line-up during 2011 ended an era of great frustration and brought back 110% dedication and professionalism into the band," "The newfound energy and motivation steered us into a victorious European tour and made it possible to produce the strongest, fastest, heaviest and definitely the most epic BEFORE THE DAWN album so far!"

Arch Enemy - "Under Black Flags We March"
Album: Khaos Legions
Release Date: 2011
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Country: Sweden
Michael Amott (guitar) comments on the video: ”It was a pleasure as always to work with our friend Patric Ullaeus on this video, which will be the fourth clip he's made for us and he really is a consummate professional – truly excellent stuff! He's captured a very suitable and cool vibe on this one too. The track itself, ’Under Black Flags We March’, is a song that we've played at every Arch Enemy show since we released the 'Khaos Legions' album last year, we love playing it as it's a change of pace in our frantic live set and it's going down really well with audiences worldwide too."
"We felt this pounding metal anthem deserved a visual companion, so here it is! A couple of things to listen out for: we had a our new guitarist Nick Cordle throw down a little lick on the song and had audio master Andy Sneap remix the song a little… So, a few minor tweaks here and there to make it something special for this visual/sonic assault! Under Black Flags We March!”

  Moonspell - "Lickanthrope"
  Album: Alpha Noir/Ómega White
  Release Date: April 27th, 2012
  Genre: Gothic / Extreme Metal
  Country: Portugal

"Lickanthrope", the new video from Portuguese gothic metal band MOONSPELL was released. The clip was directed by Filipe Melo, who worked with the band on the "I Will See You In My Dreams" video ten years ago. The shoot took place in Nandufe, Tondela, in the central region of Portugal.

Filipe Melo (video director):
"Little red riding hood enters a bar in an abandoned house amidst the woods. In this bar, the regulars are not your average kind of people — it's a place of vice, where a pack of wolves and other unearthly creatures find solace. MOONSPELL are just another part of the varied local entertainment. However when things go wild we will see that the band isn't just what meets the eye. In a cross between the pagan Portuguese folklore and a tribute to the classic Hammer movies this videoclip will bring out not only the ferocious intensity of this song but will have its place in Portuguese film history as the first werewolf transformation ever made in Portugal. The video clip features also several local theatre and cultural groups, Portuguese actors and a special appearance by the very own Suicide Girls Portugal, in a task force which will blow your mind. Beware the wolves at night, beware the lunar light!"

"Lickanthrope" comes off MOONSPELL's new album, "Alpha Noir", which will be released on April 27 via the band's new label home, Napalm Records. The cover artwork for the CD is created by Seth Siro Anton, the Greek artist who collaborated with the band on "Night Eternal"

Anathema released their last album, Wheater System, on April 16.The album was recorded in Liverpool, North Wales, Oslo and was produced and mastered by Christer-André Cederberg (had played with Animal Alpha, In the Woods... and Stille Opprør).
As one of my favorites bands, my expectations for this album were very high. Anathema is the only band that can make my brain go in his happy / melancholic place, and i love it..Damn, that sounds so cheesy, but this is what Anathema makes from me.
Wheater Systems didn't impressed me so much at first listen, it seemed a little to much atmospheric for my taste. After another few auditions the album started to grow in me, and then stayed on repeat for a long time. The album adopted the same style as their last work, We're Here Because We're Here (2010), Atmospheric Progressive / Rock with many instrumental interludes. Lee Douglas' vocals are more frequent and the orchestra is more prominent. Anathema has changed their old sound quite a bit, but they still deliver the same feelings.
Daniel Cavanagh: ‘it feels like we are at a creative peak right now, and this album reflects that. Everything from the production to the writing to the performances are a step up from our last album.’ ‘This is not background music for parties. The music is written to deeply move the listener, to uplift or take the listener to the coldest depths of the soul.’

Best Tracks: Untouchable Part 1; The Storm Before The Calm; The Beginning And The End; The Lost Child

Mael Mórdha

Recommended
It is time for a new recommendation, and this week I will present you  Mael Mórdha  (pronounced MAIL MOOR-AH), "the World's only Gaelic Doom Metal band."
Mael Mórdha was formed in January 1998 by Roibéard Ó Bogail in Dublin, Ireland. Although I think is one of the best epic doom metal bands and despite being around for almost 15 years,  Mael Mórdha remained somewhat of an unknown band, a sad thing beacause they really deserves more attention.

The combination of heavy doom metal with influences from traditional Gaelic  music makes  Mael Mórdha a unique sounding band. Nevertheless,  fans of this genre will find similarities with another famous band from Dublin, Primordial. But this resemblance can only be a huge compliment because Primordial is one of the best bands in the world (yeah, I'm sure we all love Primordial)! Yet another reason to listen  Mael Mórdha.
Biography:
"On the strength of the band’s last two EPs, Caoineadh na nGael and Cluain Tarbh, the band was signed to Dutch label Karmageddon Media which released the band’s first album, Cluain Tarbh on 12 September 2005. Due to severe internal problems within Karmageddon and a lack of availability of the album, the band left the label and signed to Grau Records in Germany in February 2006. Gaeltacht Mael Mórdha is the band's first album to be released through Grau Records, on 19 March 2007. In 2008 their debut album was re-released by Grau Records with two additional tracks previously recorded on the band's first EP, The Path to Insanity. Mael Mórdha's third full-length album, entitled "Manannán", was released on 14 May 2010, by Grau Records."
